Contemporary Museum offers free field trips to public schools

Advertiser Staff

The Contemporary Museum in Makiki Heights is now offering free field trips to Hawai'i public schools.

The field trips include free bus transportation to and from museum; an in-class pre-visit that will prepare students for their visit to the museum; a docent tour of the galleries and sculpture gardens or an interactive storytelling performance based on the art work in the sculpture gardens; and a hands-on art project that relates to the art work on view.

"In light of budget cuts in our schools, we need to do all we can to keep art education as a part of our children's lives," Allison Wong, the museum's executive director, said in a press release. "These field trips provide an excellent opportunity for public school teachers to expose their students to contemporary art and the museum."

The program is supported in part by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts through appropriations from the state Legislature and by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Field trips are available Tuesdays through Fridays, now through June 30. For more information call 237-5230 or email education@tcmhi.org.
