Ex-Warrior Travis LaBoy adds linebacker depth for 49ers

For the second time in a week, the 49ers decided that some draft-day needs just can't wait. They added outside linebacker depth by agreeing to terms today with Travis LaBoy, a California Bay Area native whose most recent game came with the Arizona Cardinals in 2008.

The 49ers made the deal on the same day that recently acquired receiver-returner Ted Ginn Jr. visited team headquarters. The 49ers traded a fifth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins to land Ginn last Friday.

Now comes LaBoy, 28, who was sidelined all of last season because of torn tendons in his foot. His agent, C.J. LaBoy, told the Marin Independent Journal today that his brother's "health is great. He is 100 percent recovered from the foot injury and surgery."

LaBoy, a University of Hawai'i alum, agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million, in part because he was eager to play closer to home. LaBoy was inducted into the Marin Catholic High School Hall of Fame over the weekend.

"He wanted to be a 49er, and he is excited to be playing for the hometown team," C.J. LaBoy told the Independent Journal. "He is very excited about the direction of this team. That was a big sell."

New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets were among the other teams to express interest.

A second-round selection by the Tennessee Titans in 2004, LaBoy spent four seasons with the Titans.
