University of Hawai'i sophomore Erika Lundberg is in first place after yesterday's first round of the Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship. The 20th annual conference tournament is being played at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

Lundberg, from Vallentuna, Sweden, had three birdies in her round of 1-over-par. She helped the Rainbow Wahine pull into second place after the first round. At 21-over 305, they are just one shot behind defending champion San Jose State.

UH freshmen Ka'ili Britos and Brigitte Baker are also in the Top 10 after rounds of 77. Senior Corie Hou and junior Brittany Bomar are tied for 20th at 79.

The tournament continues today and tomorrow. The Rainbow Wahine were seventh at last year's WAC championship.

HILO'S FELIX IN LEAD AT PACWEST TOURNEY

Hawai'i-Hilo's Ryan Felix shares the lead after yesterday's second round of the Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament at Kapolei.

Felix shot a 1-under 71 at the Makaha West Course. He is tied with Grand Canyon's Terence Daniels (70) at 2-under 142.

Hawai'i-Hilo holds third place (591), four strokes behind co-leaders Dixie State (587) and Grand Canyon (587).

Brigham Young-Hawai'i is fourth (598), Hawai'i Pacific sixth (617) and Chaminade eighth (680).

UH PLACES FOURTH AT KE'EHI LAGOON

Led by its three honored sailors, the University of Hawai'i finished fourth at last weekend's Pacific Coast Sailing Conference Coed Dinghy Championships at Ke'ehi Lagoon. That qualified the Rainbows for next month's ICSA National Semifinals, for the eighth time in nine years.

Hawai'i and UC Santa Barbara were tied for fourth place going into the last race in the B division, with Santa Clara not far behind. William Petersen and Tahnee Allman finished fifth in the race, just ahead of Santa Clara (7) and UC Santa Barbara (9), to extend the 'Bows' season.

Petersen and UH teammate Darla Baldwin were named to the PCCSC's all-conference team yesterday. Senior Ryan Wild earned the Mikey Murison Memorial Sportsmanship Award.

Stanford won last weekend's regatta with 102 points. USC (117) and UC Irvine (142) also wrapped up spots to the national semifinals. UH finished with 171 points, four points ahead of UC Santa Barbara and Santa Clara.

While Petersen and Almann were the workhorses in the B division, UH rotated six different sailors in A division, including Baldwin, Zachary Hester, Lani Johnson, Craig Schifferns, Hannah Tuson-Turner and Wild.

The Rainbows travel to Charleston, S.C., for the ICSA National Semifinals, May 1 and 2. UH will look to secure a spot in its third national event when its competes in the PCCSC Women's Championship this weekend at Stanford, Calif.
