The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Hawai'i rose this week to $3.57, up 4 cents from last week, AAA Hawai'i's Weekend Gas Watch reported.

AAA said Honolulu's average price was $3.46, up 3 cents from last week, 6 cents more than last month and $1.08 more than at this time last year.

Hilo's average was $3.59, up 3 cents from last week, 12 cents more than last month and $1.04 more than at this time last year.

Wailuku's average was $3.91, up three cents more than last week, seven cents more than last month and $1.21 more than last year.

ALASKA AIRLINES ADDING 3 FLIGHTS TO ISLES

Alaska Airlines will add three more flights to Hawai'i from the West Coast this fall as part of its continuing expansion into the local market.

The carrier said yesterday it will inaugurate daily service between San Diego and Maui beginning Oct. 1.

It also will add two seasonal flights to Kona, one from Portland and one from Seattle. Alaska Airlines will run the Portland flight four times a week starting Nov. 12 and the Seattle flight three times a week starting Nov. 11.

The new flights are in addition to the new daily service between Portland and Honolulu the carrier announced last week. With the new flights, Alaska Airlines will have more than 100 roundtrips a week to the four major Hawaiian islands.

HEMIC, TEXAS FIRM ENTER RELATIONSHIP

HEMIC Insurance Managers Inc. has become the exclusive representative in Hawai'i for American Hallmark Insurance Co., a property and casualty insurer based in Texas.

The relationship will allow HIMI Insurance Managers to offer insurance products designed for small businesses, including a business owners policy and a business auto and excess policy, the company said. HIMI is a subsidiary of Hawaii Employers' Mutual Insurance Co.

"In short order we will introduce a commercial package policy that responds to businesses with more complicated insurance needs," said David Doehm, president of HIMI.
