Kevin Macdonald's sacrfice fly capped a two-run eighth inning and Hawai'i outlasted Louisiana Tech, 14-13, today to take a 2-1 lead in the Western Athletic Conference series at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston, La.

The Rainbows (21-10 overall, 4-7 WAC) trailed 13-12 entering the eighth when Kolten Wong led off with a single and David Freitas walked. Jeffrey Van Doornum's RBI single tied the game at 13 against Tech reliever Will Alvis (0-1). An out later and after a 1-0 count, Alvis was lifted for Mike Jefferson, who walked Greg Garcia to load the bases, setting up Macdonald's sacrifice fly to left that scored Freitas.

Connor Little (2-0) allowed four run in three innings, striking out four, but was the beneficiary of two-run eighth. Lenny Linsky pitched the eight and ninth innings, allowing only one runner on a ninth-inning fielding error by shortstop Garcia, to notch his ninth save.

Ironically, Alvis (0-1), who started at DH, drove in five runs with a three-run and two-run home runs for the Bulldogs (20-18, 5-6). Alvis gave us two runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Hawai'i stormed to a 4-0 lead in the second when it cashed in two walks on Garcia's three-run home run. Pi'ikea Kitamura added an RBI single later in the inning.

The Bulldogs cut their deficit in half with RBI singles from Clint Ewing and Clint Stubbs in the bottom of the second inning.

The Rainbows responded with three runs in the top of the third in chasing starter Barrett. Garcia's RBI single forced Barrett out of the game for Caleb Dudley, who later gave up a two-run double to Matt Roquemore to make it 7-2.

The Bulldogs got two back in the bottom of the third on an RBI ground out by Alex Williams and RBI single by Joey Ford to pull to 7-4.

Hawai'i continued its scoring spree, making Tech pay for a walk and hit batsman with two out that was followed by Collin Bennett's three-run home run to center to make it 10-4.

The Bulldogs had their third consecutive two-run inning in the bottom of the fourth in chasing UH starter Matt Sisto with two outs for Alex Capaul.

Taylor Terrasas had a run-scoring double and wild pitch scored the second run.

Tech broke out of its two-run rut with a three-run fifth to pull to 10-9 on a three-run home run by Alvis off Capaul, who was pulled after giving up a triple to Stubbs for Connor Little. Little struck out the next two batters and got Mark Threlkeld on a fly to center to preserve UH's lead.

The Rainbows added two in the sxith on a run-scoring ground out by Jeffrey Van Doornum and RBI triple by Bennett to increase UH's lead to 12-9.

The Bulldogs took the lead for the first time with a four-run sixth that started with a one out solo home run by Devon Dageford and later a game-tying two-run homer from Alvis. Later with runners at the corners with two out, the Bulldogs executed a double steal to take a 13-12 lead.
