HPU sweeps past UHH in baseball

Michael Green scattered six hits in pitching a seven-inning complete game, and Tyler Davis drove in two runs to lead Hawai'i Pacific to a 4-1 victory over Hawai'i-Hilo yesterday in the first game of a Pacific West Conferencebaseball doubleheader at Hans L'Orange Park.

In the second game, Nooji Bas homered and drove in two runs, and Wade Tamaru drove in two runs to lead the Sea Warriors to a 7-3 victory.

With the sweep, HPU improved to 30-10 overall and 22-4 in conference.

Green (5-2) walked three and struck out six for HPU in the first game.

Davis, Kenny Turner, Blake Amaral and Kale Sumner each had two hits for the Sea Warriors.

Ronel Trias had two hits for UHH (15-22, 10-16) in the first game. Shane Kessel had two hits and drove in three runs for the Vulcans in the second.

SOFTBALL

UH-HILO SWEEPS BYU-HAWAI'I

Amber Waracka and Sarah Weisskopf pitched complete-game shutouts as visiting Hawai'i-Hilo swept a Pacific West Conference doubleheader from Brigham Young-Hawai'i yesterday in Lā'ie.

In the first game, Waracka gave up one hit in a 6-0 victory. Weisskopf came back with a eight-hitter in an 8-0 second-game victory.

The Vulcans improved to 33-14 overall and 21-9 in conference. The Seasiders fell to 4-32 and 4-24.

Nicole Alconcel had two hits and an RBI, and Weisskopf hit a two-run homer to lead UHH in the first game.

Bryanna Hardy singled, homered and drove in four runs, Kanani Numata went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and Christina Pedroza hit a solo homer for the UHH in the second game.
