HPD officer charged with drunken driving after woman hit in crosswalk

A Honolulu police office has been charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant after a 61-year-old woman was hit in a crosswalk.
According to a police report: Officer Boyd Kamikawa, 53, who was off duty at the time and not in a police vehicle, was arrested after the woman was hit while in a crosswalk at A'ala and North Kukui streets about 7 a.m. Saturday.
Kamikawa was released on $500 bail. Other charges are possible.
HPD Capt. Letha DeCaires said criminal and internal investigations have been opened in the case of the 23-year police veteran who works in District One.
The woman suffered a broken left arm and left wrist and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
