Volleyball player Aneli Cubi-Otineru and tennis player Andreas Weber were honored tonight as the University of Hawai'i's Jack Bonham Award winners.

The award is named for the former UH assistant athletics director who died in a 1974 plane crash. The Bonham Award is given annually to the top female and male senior student-athlete who "best exemplifies the ideals for which Jack Bonham stood for in the areas of athletic excellence, academic achievement, public service, leadership and character."

The annual Scholar-Athlete Dinner was held at Stan Sheriff Center and also honored student-athletes who earned at least a 3.0 grade-point average.

Cubi-Otineru, a 2005 Punahou alum from Hale'iwa, helped the Rainbow Wahine to the final four and a No. 3 national ranking last fall. She is a third-team All-American and was also named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Decade Team. She graduated a year ago in Interdisciplinary Studies, with an emphasis on Family Health and Wellness.

Weber is only the second men's tennis player to receive the Bonham Award, after Dean Dunn-Rankin in 1980. He came to UH from Henfeld, Germany, and was named the 2007 WAC Freshman of the Year. His win clinched the Rainbows' inaugural NCAA Tournament victory a year ago and he has been ranked as high as 25th nationally. Weber will graduate next month in International Business and Finance.
