Kauai fire rescue personnel yesterday airlifted a California woman who suffered an asthma attack from Hanakapiai on the island's north shore.
The 28-year-old woman was hiking the Kalalau Trail near an area commonly known as Red Hill. Hikers coming off the trail notified authorities.
Rescue specialists from the Lihue fire station picked the woman up from a Hanakapiai loading zone and flew her to Princeville Airport.
The woman was examined by paramedics, but declined further treatment and was released.
