University of Hawai'i-Hilo will play in the NCAA Division II West/Central Regional this weekend. The 20-team tournament, one of four across the country, runs Saturday to Monday at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.

Host is Cal State San Bernardino and other teams in the field include conference champions Grand Canyon Pacific, Cal State Monterey Bay, Colorado-Colorado Springs and Minnesota State Mankato.

Sonoma State, which is also in the Vulcans' regional, defeated San Bernardino in a playoff last year to win the DII national championship.

The five top teams and top two golfers competing individually advance to the the finals, May 18 to 21 at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind.

Hilo's participants are Logan Goulding, Ryan Felix, Isaac Jaffurs, Niel Cabico and Chris Armanini.

The Vulcans have six freshmen coming in next season — Corey Kozuma ('Iolani), Nick Matsushima (Kalani), Christian Agosta (Moanalua), Chris Shimomura (Lahainaluna), Blake Snyder (Seattle) and Travis Russell (California).

4 COURSES ON LIST

Four Hawai'i courses, headed by Kapalua's Plantation, made Golfweek's third annual list of the 50 Best Tour Courses You Can Play. The story is in the magazine's April 23 issue.

Kapalua Plantation, site of the PGA tour's season-opening SBS Championship, is 12th on the list. That puts it ahead of such courses as Pumpkin Ridge (21), Torrey Pines South (24), TPC Scottsdale (25) and Doral (29). Four Seasons Hualālai, site of the Champions Tour's season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship, comes in 33rd. Royal Kā'anapali, home of the Wendy's Champions Skins Game, is 46th and Turtle Bay's Palmer Course, former home of the LPGA's SBS Open, is 49th.

The top three courses are all major sites this year — Pebble Beach Golf Links (Calif.), St. Andrew's Old Course (Scotland) and the Straits Course at Whistling Straits (Wisconsin).

A nationwide team of more than 550 evaluators rated each layout on the basis of 10 criteria, including routing, conditioning, variety and memorability of holes.

The PGA Tour has created a new way for fans to interact with its year-old charitable theme, "Together, anything's possible."

The website www.pgatour.com/together is designed as a "one-stop resource to learn what the tour is already doing for charity and become inspired to join their local tournament or favorite player's charitable mission."

Fans have access to a database of the charities touched annually by the tour and have the ability to donate directly to tour charities via the website. There will be news feeds from relevant sources and original content created by the tour and fans.

The tour's goal is "to increase the reach and scope of our impact by asking our fans to get involved." Tour events have helped nearly 3,000 charities worldwide.

The 14th annual Miss Hawai'i Scholarship tournament will be May 28 at Royal Kunia. The event benefits the Miss Hawai'i Scholarship Fund and this year's 22 finalists will be at the course.
