'Day at the Races' featuring Hawaii candidates
The National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii is holding a fundraiser tomorrow at Moose Mcgillycuddy's in Waikiki called Day at the Races that will feature political candidates running for office.
Organizers said the afternoon's activities will involve horsing around and coincides with the Kentucky Derby.
The "candidates race" will start at 1 p.m. All those running for island-wide office (congressional seat, mayor and city prosecutor) have been invited to the event. Confirmed so far are Ed Case, Peter Carlisle, Don Pacarro and Darwin Ching.
Broomsticks with horse heads have been created and each candidate will be assigned a "lane." Dice will be rolled to advance each horse. Organizers said it is similar to carnival games where you roll a ball into a hole and the horse advances by the corresponding number.
The event is aimed at raising awareness of the effects of kidney disease in Hawaii, where it afflicts one in every seven people in Hawaii.
The event is from noon to 4 p.m. and includes a buffet. Tickets cost $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
