MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Kobe Bryant scored on a breakaway dunk with 4:14 left in the third quarter Monday night to pass Jerry West as the career leading scorer for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bryant, in his 14th season, entered the game needing 29 points to pass West. Bryant missed his first three shots in the game, but scored 23 points in the first half.
West ended his 14-year career, all with the Lakers, with 25,192 points.
Bryant moved within a point of West's mark on a dunk with 4:37 left in the third. He passed West 23 seconds later.
There was a scramble for the ball on the Grizzlies end. Jordan Farmar gathered the loose ball and was alone with Bryant on the break. Farmar gave up the ball to Bryant for the dunk.
