Man linked to Kauai’s first traffic fatality of the year arrested
Kauai police Thursday said a 31-year-old Lawa‘i man who was involved in Kaua'i’s first fatal crash of the year was arrested Wednesday morning at police headquarters in Lihue.
Tomas Garcia, 32, of Kapa‘a, was killed in the crash on Kaumuali‘i Highway near the entrance to Kahili Mt. Park on Jan. 19. His passenger, a 27-year-old man of Kilauea, was injured.
Police said Norman Bukoski Jr. was arrested and charged with drunken driving, first-degree negligent homicide and first-degree negligent injury.
Bukoski was released pending completion of the investigation, police said.
According to an earlier report, Bukoski was traveling west in a GMC pickup on Kaumuali‘i at 10:16 p.m. when he crossed the center line and collided head-on into the eastbound Ford truck driven by Garcia.
Bukoski was the sole occupant of the truck.
