Kamehameha schools says students shared video with sexual content via social media

Advertiser Staff

Kamehameha schools said today it has taken disciplinary action after confirming a video with sexual content was produced off campus and shared by students.

Below is the statement released today by Michael Chun, president and headmaster of Kamehameha Schools Kapalama:
"An internal investigation at our Kapalama campus has confirmed that a video produced off campus containing sexual content was being shared between students via social networking media. Where warranted, we have taken appropriate disciplinary action. We have also reported this matter to the police and will cooperate fully should they pursue their own investigation. As is our practice, due to the privacy interests of the students involved, we will not be discussing details of the incident or the school's disciplinary measures. We do think it is important, however, to express our ongoing concern about irresponsible use of social media tools.
"Although we train every Kamehameha Schools student in the rules of responsible, ethical and appropriate use of the internet, our society continues to learn the possible legal ramifications of inappropriate use of these media tools. The consequences of poor choices can be devastating for the children and families involved, as well as for our school 'ohana and the community at large."
