The city announced Wednesday it is beginning a search for a new Honolulu Zoo director following the resignation of Stephen Walker for personal reasons.

The zoo’s assistant director, Tommy Higashino, will assume Walker’s responsibilities until a replacement is found, said Sidney Quintal, director of the Department of Enterprise Services, which operates the zoo.
Quintal said the city will consider local applicants and those from across the country for the position.
