The Commons Gallery at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Art Building is this week hosting an the exhibit titled “The Art and Life of Mei Lanfang.”

Mei, born in Taizhou, Jiangsu (1894), into a family of Beijing opera performers, is recognized as the first to introduce Beijing opera to America. The exhibit consists of historical photos, ornaments, costumes and weaponry from some of his best-known performances. The free exhibit is open 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and tomorrow. It's today.
