Drowning victim off Hilton was Chinese visitor
A man who died after he was pulled from waters off the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tuesday afternoon has been identified by the city Department of the Medical Examiner as Kuang Zheng Pu, 61, of Zhejiang Province, China.
Pu was swimming with a group of people in the surf spot known as "Kaisers" when he got into trouble at about 1:40 p.m. Bystanders were able to bring him to shore and begin CPR, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department.
Ambulance personnel treated Pu and transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Cheplic said lifeguards brought Pu’s three companions to shore on a rescue craft, but said they did not require treatment.
