8th-grader gets 'irritable' to win Central District title

Hannah Komar survived 16 rounds at last night's Central District Spelling Bee at Mililani Middle School by correctly spelling "irritable."
The eighth-grader from Our Savior Lutheran School emerged as the champion speller in the Central District, edging out Brysen Pasion, an eighth-grader from Mililani Middle School.
Brysen incorrectly spelled "referendum" in the 15th round but will join Hannah at the state spelling bee.
In all, 22 students competed from the Central District.
The results of last night's Maui District Spelling Bee held at 'Īao Intermediate School were unavailable.
The top two finishers in each district advance to the state spelling bee March 14 at Palikū Theatre at Windward Community College.
The state champion will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which is June 2 to 4 in Washington, D.C.

Kaua'i: Athena Abadilla (winner), St. Theresa School; Harmony Graziano, Kapa'a Middle School.
Windward: Maria Mesina (winner), St. Ann's Model School; Jordan Kauwe, Windward Nazarene Academy.
Leeward: Feb. 19, 6:30 p.m., Lanakila Baptist High School.
Honolulu: Feb. 27, 2 p.m., Sacred Hearts Academy .
Big Island: Feb. 27, Hawai'i Preparatory Academy.
