A helicopter tour company reported seeing a "SOS" written on Kalalau Beach before police discovered a body yesterday, Kaua'i county officials said.

The identity of the body is unknown, said county spokeswoman Mary Daubert.

Police flew into the valley and found the body after receiving the report of the 'SOS' at 2:30 p.m., Daubert said.

After returning to Princeville Airport to pick up rescue personnel, police returned to the beach, interviewed people in the area and retrieved the body, returning to the airport at about 6 p.m., she said.
