Lifeguards report ocean clear of oily substance
Kailua Beach lifeguards yesterday reported no oily sheen on the water, a day after beachgoers complained of an oily substance in the water.
Lifeguards yesterday had not received any complaints from beachgoers, said Bryan Cheplic of the city Emergency Services Department.
On Sunday, numerous beachgoers at Kailua Beach complained to lifeguards of coming into contact with a slippery substance that seemed to taste like oil.
Lifeguards saw a brown and green oily type sheen about 150 yards in length and 50 yards in width in offshore waters fronting the Kailua Beach Park boat ramp area.
