The Board of Water Supply is asking all North Shore water users from Pupukea to Turtle Bay to continue to use water sparingly even after crews fixed a broken main on Kamehameha Highway fronting Haleiwa Beach Park by 1:30 p.m. Only the North Shore-bound lane of Kamehameha Highway near Jameson's restaurant remains open.
About 18 feet of damaged pipeline had to be removed and replaced.
The 16-inch main, which ruptured shortly after 11:30 last night, was installed in 1964 and supplies much of the water to the North Shore area.
Residents should use water for essential use only, such as personal hygiene, cooking and drinking. Other water-using activities such as laundry, watering lawns and washing cars should be held off for now. The Board of Water Supply needs to refill area reservoirs.
