BERKELEY, Calif.— California has hired Clancy Pendergast away from the Oakland Raiders to become the defensive coordinator for the Golden Bears.
Coach Jeff Tedford made the announcement Friday that he found a replacement for the recently departed Bob Gregory. Gregory left two days ago to take an assistant’s job at Boise State.
Pendergast was hired earlier this month to be a defensive assistant for the Raiders. He has spent the past 15 years in the NFL. He was defensive coordinator in Kansas City last season and for the previous five years in Arizona. He helped the Cardinals make it to the Super Bowl a year ago.
Pendergast last worked in college in 1993-94 as an assistant at Oklahoma.
