Isle birds topic of free lecture
Birds, and in particular the Isles' most endangered avian species, will be the topic of another in the Natural Treasures of Hawai'i free lecture series 6 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 24 at ING Direct Cafe, 1958 Kalakaua Ave.
The presenter is biologist Jim Jacobi, principal investigator for the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacfific Island Ecosystems Research Center. He has spent more than 30 years in research that has included vegetation mapping, conducting bird and plant surveys, studying impacts and management of invasive species, plant community restoration, species range modeling and assessing the potential impacts of climate change on local ecosystems. He is co-author of "Conservation Biology of Hawaiian Forest Birds."
