Damaged cable leads to AT&T service disruption

Damage to a fiber optic cable caused disruptions in service to some cell phone and Internet users Monday, an official said.
A Hawaiian Telcom spokesman said his company was told that AT&T reported that a fiber optic cable was cut on Oçahu, affected mobile telephone and Internet service for some people served by AT&T to Mainland and international destinations.
Some Hawaiian Telcom customers were affected because the company uses AT&T as well as other carriers to route Internet traffic out of Hawaiçi, the spokesman said.
AT&T officials could not be reached for comment.
