Punahou graduate Alex Ching helped his University of San Diego team to its third straight win at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Mardi Gras Invitational Tuesday.

The sophomore cruised to a six-shot win individually, firing a final-round 69 to finish at 9-under-par 207.

The Toreros shot 293 Tuesday to chase down second-round leader North Carolina State and win by three. They had a three-day total of 870.

The tournament was played at the TPC Louisiana course, just outside New Orleans. It is also the site of the PGA Tour's Zurich Classic.

USD has won four of its past five starts, including the Kaua'i Collegiate in October.

ASHFORD NEW ALOHA SECTION PRESIDENT

Scott Ashford, Kaua'i Lagoons Director of Golf, takes over as president of the Aloha Section PGA, succeeding Matt Hall. The 2010-11 officers were named at the annual meeting Tuesday at the Waikīkī Beach Marriott.

John Harman, Waialae Country Club Head Pro, is vice-president and treasurer.

Others on the board of directors are Kevin Hayashi, Travis Joerger, Steve Murphy, Eddie Lee, Ron Huffman, Lance Taketa and Hall. They will name the secretary from their group and begin a process to select a new executive director, Hall said.

Cyndi Dlugosz was added to the Aloha Section staff as the new membership services and events manager. She replaced Joy Kunishima, who was honored at the meeting for her 12 years of service with the section.

SKINS GAME ON TV

Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson's win at the Wendy's Champions Skins Game will be shown on TV this weekend. The exhibition was played last month at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course.

The program will be on ESPN from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Nicklaus and Watson defeated the teams of Ben Crenshaw/Fuzzy Zoeller, Fred Couples/Nick Price and Gary Player/Loren Roberts. Watson went on to win the tour's first official event of the year, the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualālai.

KIDZ CLUB OFFERED

The next session of Ko Olina Kidz Club starts March 14 and meets every Sunday through April 25. The club is open to all junior golfers between the ages of 7 and 17.

There are five levels throughout the day and the series costs $140 to $180 depending on the level. Payment deadline is March 7.

Ko Olina's next session of Get Golf Ready in five days is sold out. It begins in May and other sessions will be available in the future.

The program is designed to teach beginners what they need to know to get on the golf course in five lessons. The cost is $99 for six hours of instruction.
