Big Island police charge man who tried to rob pharmacy with rifle

Big Island police have charged 28-year-old Paul Santoro with 16 crimes in connection with an attempted robbery of a Hilo pharmacy on Tuesday.
Police say Santoro, armed with a loaded 30.06 bolt-action rifle, entered the pharmacy and demanded drugs.
Employees disarmed Santoro in a struggle.
Santoro was charged Wednesday night with robbery, terroristic threatening, assault and numerous weapons violations.
Police also say the rifle used in the robbery had been taken in a home burglary on Monday, and Santoro was charged additionally burglary and theft.
Santoro's bail was set at $223,300. He is being held in the Hilo police cellblock.
