Kealakekua man, 21, faces charges in traffic fatality
A 21-year-old Big Island man has been charged in connection with a traffic accident that claimed the life of a 17-year-old Waikoloa girl.
Police say bail for Joseph Edgar Jr. of Kealakekua was set at $102,000 as he was charged Wednesday night with negligent homicide, reckless driving, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and two counts of negligent injury.
The accident that claimed the life of Angela Apostadiro happened Tuesday night on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway in North Kona.
Police said she was in a taxi operated by her mother when it was struck by a multipurpose vehicle driven by Edgar. They said he was traveling south in the highway's north-bound shoulder lane at the time of the crash.
