Pali Lookout provides view, peace of mind

Hundreds of tsunami-fearing Oahu residents sought safety this morning at the ultimate high ground: The Pali Lookout.
People began arriving before sunrise and by mid-morning, cars, trucks and vans had choked both access roads. Groups huddled on blankets, some folks barbecued and a lot of people walked their dogs. Children were everywhere.
The lookout is perched on the brink of cliffs a thousand feet high and offers a panoramic view of the ocean, from Kualoa to Lanikai.
“This is the only place I feel safe,” said Zeia Isberner, the 27-year-old wife of a deployed Marine who left her home on Marine Corp Base, Hawaii. “They have a hill on base that is out of the tidal zone but it wasn’t high enough for me.”
