Algae-removal project begins tomorrow
Kumu Keolani Noa of Kuli'ou'ou and Kahu Leolani Pratt of Maunalua will bless the workers of Pono Pacific tomorrow as they begin removing invasive algae from Maunalua Bay as part of the The Great Huki Maunalua Bay Reef Restoration Project. 4TH-GRADERS LEARN ABOUT MARINE DEBRIS
Jefferson Elementary fourth-graders spent three weeks learning about marine debris and its impact on the environment. The project culminated in a cleanup of Queen's Beach in Waikīkī on Feb. 18 and an art project using rubbish and debris collected from Windward O'ahu to create mosaics of marine animals.

GARAGE SALE HELPS FUND SCHOLARSHIPS
Nanakuli Community Foundation will hold its third annual Garage Sale Extravaganza Fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Nānākuli High School cafeteria. Sale features household items, jewelry, toys, clothing, books, CDs, DVDs and a concession booth. Proceeds will help fund scholarships for local students to pursue higher education. Call 682-5288.

XERISCAPE WINNERS GET GARDEN MAKEOVER
The Honolulu Board of Water Supply unveiled the new xeriscape garden of Ray and Cyndie Fernandez of Kapahulu this month. The Fernandez family won the EXTREME Xeriscape Garden Makeover contest, receiving a yard renovation worth more than $20,000 that will help them to conserve water through efficient landscaping.

TALK STORY WITH SINGER JERRY SANTOS
Award-winning singer-songwriter Jerry Santos will be featured at a free Talk Story session Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Windward Community College's Palikū Theatre. Santos is best known for his work with the group Olomana and signature song "Ku'u Home O Kahalu'u." The Talk Story Series was created to promote Hawaiian music events and courses, and to recognize Hawaiian music masters who reside on the Windward side. Call 236-9144 for information.
