Add Hawai'i's Fashion Forum members to the list of our New Year's fashion prognosticators. Today, several members share their ideas on what will be a hot trend in 2010.

As for me, I have my eye on uber-talented designer Phoebe Philo, formerly with Chloe, who is transforming the French fashion house Celine. Her spring collection is full of chic clothes for women who crave fine fabrics and classic menswear-inspired silhouettes, always with an unexpected element. I crave her silk cigarette pants.

I'm hopeful that Roland Mouret will receive the accolades due him. Will this be the year? His origami-like asymmetrical dresses were standouts for spring 2010.

As for silhouettes, look for sharper shoulders, the return of the miniskirt and Grecian draping for both day and evening.

Willow Chang: "Well, I'm a big fan of gray! Maybe it's the hapa in me; it's neither black nor white and goes with everything, has a million shades and is seasonless. When there's so many strange trends around, gray simply feels good!"

Amanda Stevens: "While in Hilo over the holiday weekend, I walked into an eclectic shop called The Grove Gallery on Kamehameha Avenue and found what I'm sure will be a hot trend in 2010 — innovative slippers called Switchflops. Buy one pair and switch out the straps to fit any occasion and any outfit. This innovative concept is by Lindsay Phillips. It started on the East Coast and has made its way to Hawai'i, where it surely belongs. Some retailers are offering a special: the slipper with two interchangeable straps for $36. Additional straps are usually $12 each. Sold on O'ahu at Global Village in Kailua, Manuheali'i in Kailua and Makiki, Oasis Lifestyle at Waikiki Beach Walk and Plantation Home Decor in Kapolei."

Sierra Dew: "Scandinavian textiles. I think the style is a perfect combination of kitschy and the sweet farmer-girl theme I have been seeing lately. They give you a wonderful glimpse into the Scandinavian countries which are at the forefront of the eco-lifestyle movement."

Kyle Kagamida: "I know this may be a cliche for spring, but I have to say that my favorite trend for 2010, straight off the runway, is the floral prints that were shown, from the saddle ranch runway of Chanel to the reinvention of the floral print by Alexander McQueen. Yes, it is spring and it is a cliche, but these designers found a way to make floral edgy. My idol, the master of all masters, Mr. Karl Lagerfeld, can do no wrong; but I must bow to Alexander McQueen this spring season; he made the floral colors and print a force to be reckoned with. He infused the prints with architectural dresses and two pieces, making them both androgynous and flirtatious at the same time. The top trend: floral. Top house: Alexander McQueen."

Stephanie Matsumoto: "Shoes that make a statement fit the bill. Luxurious footwear, whether it's mile-high stilettos, strappy sandals, sequined ballet flats, etc. I think the economy is picking up, and people are willing to invest in something they can wear every day, as opposed to buying just a dress or top."

Toby Portner: "I'm newly enjoying the style.com application for the iPhone. It makes waiting in line bearable, and easy to keep up with what's being sent down the runways all over the world."

DARE WE BROOCH THE SUBJECT?

Brooches have, all too often, been relegated to the old-school, old-fashioned and, dare we say, old-fogeyish. It took Rihanna to show us how to wow a brooch when she smoked the look in a bold crystal version over a sharp-shouldered Balmain jacket.

Now two local designers, Ashley Noelle and Kisa Kosmos of NovaLuna Designs, are making these accessories look hip again. Each brooch is one of a kind, constructed with imagination from bits and pieces of vintage jewelry, watches, feathers, faux flowers and tiny bottles of "love potions." Bunch 'em up on a blazer, accessorize your favorite handbag, pin one at the waist of a vintage '50s frock or clasp several to a chignon for a fab fashion statement.
