NFL: Jonathan Stewart gives Panthers pair of 1,100-yard rushers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jonathan Stewart has joined DeAngelo Williams to give the Carolina Panthers the first set of teammates since the AFL-NFL merger to rush for more than 1,100 yards each in the same season.
Stewart needed 92 yards coming into the season finale against New Orleans and got the bulk of it on a 67-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage. He went over 1,100 yards with a 7-yard run late in the second quarter.
Williams was selected to his first Pro Bowl, but missed his second straight game Sunday with a sprained left ankle. Williams has 1,117 yards rushing.
Stewart and Williams are the sixth pair of teammates since 1970 to go over 1,000 yards, and the second in as many years. Derrick Ward and Brandon Jacobs of the New York Giants did it last year.
