Visitor injured on Kauai while hiking
An injured 55-year-old male visitor from Seattle was airlifted from Kalalau Valley on Kauai yesterday afternoon.
The man, who was hiking with his son, had severely injured his ankle and was unable to hike out, according to Kauai officials. His son hiked out, leaving him behind, to the Ching Young Village and called police at 11:35 a.m., Kauai officials said.
Rescuers from the Lihue fire station flew into the valley on Airborne Aviation, picked up the injured hiker at the Kalalau Valley and flew him to Princeville Airport, Kauai officials said.
