Big Island, Kauai home sales rose last month

Big Island and Kauaçi home sales capped off 2009 on a high note, with the number of transactions increasing in December compared to the same month a year earlier.
Data compiled by Hawaii Information Service shows sales of single family homes rose by 22 percent to 120 on the Big Island and by 89 percent to 36 on Kauaçi.
Median home sales prices, however, fell on the Big Island by 7.6 percent to $275,000.
Kauaçis median home price rose by 8 percent to $530,000.
Condominium statistics for both islands were:
Hawaiçi County condominium sales totaled 36 during the month. That was 71 percent higher than in December a year earlier.
Hawaii County median condominium prices fell by one quarter to $255,000.
There were 15 condominium sales on Kauaçi during the month, or two-thirds more than a year prior.
The median condominium price on Kauaçi was off 39 percent to $313,500.
