38-foot sailboat runs aground near Kahe power plant
The Coast Guard was monitoring a 38-foot sailboat that ran aground about 2 p.m. yesterday off the Kahe power plant on the leeward coast.
Coast Guard investigators said the Priscilla Mary was carrying 10 gallons of fuel but that there were no reports of pollution.
The Priscilla Mary was anchored while its passengers were snorkeling, the Coast Guard said, when the wind picked up and pushed the ship toward the shore.
No injuries to the seven passengers were reported.
Honolulu Fire Department and Police Department personnel were the first on scene. Coast Guard pollution investigators responded about 3:30 p.m.
The owner plans to have the vessel removed. Coast Guard personnel remained on scene to monitor the situation.
