The Coast Guard today said it is helping federal ocean officials tend to an entangled humpback whale that was reported about three nautical miles off Kailua’s shoreline yesterday.
The whale was believed to be the same one that was spotted off the Big Island last week, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration spokeswoman said. It was reported in poor condition and was believed to be entangled in fishing line.
Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony Soto said his agency would continue assisting NOAA officials in the operation.
