TOKYO — Takashi Uchiyama knocked out Juan Carlos Salgado on Monday night to win the WBA super featherweight title, while Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym defended his bantamweight belt with a majority decision over Satoshi Hosana.
Uchiyama (14-0, 11 KOs) sent his Mexican challenger to the mat with a combination to the head late in the final round. Salgado (21-1-1) returned to his feet briefly before the referee stopped the bout with 10 seconds left.
In the co-main event, the 29-year-old Poonsawat (40-1) built up a solid lead in the middle rounds against Hosono (16-1). The Thai fighter then held on in the first defense of the title he won by defeating Bernard Dunne last September.
Two judges scored the bout 117-113 and 115-113, while the third scored it a draw.
