Advertiser Staff

HILO — A collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian yesterday has left two Kailua, Kona, men dead.

Hawaii County police today identified the men as Dale R. Dyk, 50, and Jaison Enriquez, 40.
Police said Dyk was operating a 1998 Harley Davidson and traveling south on Alii Drive fronting the Alii Lani condominiums shortly after 3 p.m. when he struck Enriquez, who was crossing the street.
Enriquez was not in a crosswalk.
Paramedics took both men to Kona Community Hospital. Dyk was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. and Enriquez at 5:57 p.m.
Dyk was not wearing a helmet.
Police believe that alcohol and speed were factors in this crash. Police believe that the pedestrian had also been drinking.
Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest and negligent homicide investigation and have ordered autopsies.
Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call Officer Marvin Troutman at 326-4646, extension 229.
There have been three traffic fatalities on the Big Island this year compared with one at this time last year.
