Organizers of Friday’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day bell-ringing ceremony at the Honolulu Civic Center have dedicated the event to Haiti earthquake victims.
Representatives of the American Red Cross will be at the event to accept donations for Haiti relief efforts.
The ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Nagasaki Peace Bell, on the east side of the Kalanimoku Building.
The event is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Coalition-Hawaiçi and the United Nations Association-Hawaii Division.
This year’s observance is being held on King’s birthday, Jan. 15. Previous King Day bell-ringing events have been held on the Sunday before the King Day holiday.
