CBS is planning an updated version of the classic cop series Hawaii Five-O, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series will be penned by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who have teamed up as screenwriters for films such as Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III and Transformers, and Peter Lenkov, a television and film writer and CSI: NY executive producer, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The series is envisioned as a contemporary take on the original series, focusing on an elite branch of the Hawaii State Police headed by Steve McGarrett and answerable only to the governor. The original Hawaii Five-O, created by Leonard Freeman, ran on CBS from 1968 to 1980.
Kurtzman and Orci co-wrote the story for the pilot with Lenkov, who put together the script under their supervision. All three are serving as executive producers, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
