Rockfall keeps Diamond Head Road closed to traffic
Diamond Head Road, which was closed Friday afternoon because of falling rocks, remained closed last night.
Police had no immediate information on when it would re-open.
About a dozen or more basketball-size rocks reportedly fell onto the roadway at approximately 4 p.m. Friday. There were no injuries, but the road was closed until engineers from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources could assess the hillside where the rocks had fallen.
The rockfall happened at a place where officials have placed concrete Jersey barriers along the mauka shoulder of the road.
