Phase 2 of Market Street project will begin tomorrow
Construction on the second phase of the Market Street Improvement Project in Wailuku will begin tomorrow, Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares announced.
The project, using federal stimulus money, includes building a landscaped island to serve as a school bus stop at the intersection at Pi'ihana Road; new sidewalks, curbs, driveways and curb ramps; and repaving of the road.
Drainage systems will also be improved by installing an underground system to capture runoff from heavy rains and release it into 'Iao Stream, and part of the existing water line will be realigned to accommodate the new drainage system.
Total funding for the project is $2.6 million released under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Work is scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with some weekend work necessary.
