Unionized workers at Kaiser Permanente’s Honolulu Clinic on Pensacola Street are conducting a one-day strike today.
UNITE HERE Local 5 — which represents 1,800 workers at 21 Kaiser facilities on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island — says Kaiser is trying to subcontract union work.
The union said it expects 500 red-shirted members to join the picket line. A rally is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Kaiser Permanente said in a news release that the clinic will remain open.
Kaiser will staff the Honolulu Clinic with workers from other facilities, Suzann Filleul, Region Nurse Executive, said in a statement.
“For the most part, it is business as usual," Filleul said. "We look forward to welcoming our Local 5 staff back tomorrow.”
