UH's Kaufman gets WAC track award

University of Hawai'i senior Amber Kaufman has been named the Western Athletic Conference women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Kaufman won the high jump at the UW Preview over the weekend. Her winning jump of 6 feet, 1 1/2 inches earned her a berth in the NCAA Indoor Championship for the second straight year.
Kaufman was named WAC Athlete of the Week three times last season.
TENNIS
LAJOLA HONORED
University of Hawai'i junior Dennis Lajola has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's tennis Player of the Week.
Lajola, a two-time all-WAC first-team selection, earned his fourth weekly honor of his career.
Lajola was 3-0 at No. 1 singles last week, defeating Lucas Tirelli of Saint Mary's Alex Konigsfeldt of UC Santa Barbara and Nevada's Wessim Derbel. At No. 1 doubles, Lajola teamed with Jeremy Tweedt to beat Gavin Leon and Steven Dawson-Roberts of Saint Mary's and Alex Daruty and Stefan Dmitrovic of Nevada.
UH is off to a 3-0 start in the spring season.
TRAINING
STRENGTH CLINIC
The University of Hawai'i will host a Strength Coaches Clinic Jan. 30 at the Alex Waterhouse Training Facility on the Mānoa campus.
The day-long event will begin at 9 a.m. and feature speakers from UH, Texas, Southern California, Oregon State and Utah.
Topics will include football and volleyball offseason conditioning, nutrition, speed and agility, and coaching effectiveness.
Cost is $60, which includes lunch. Late registration is $75. Information is available through UH strength coach Tommy Heffernan at 956-7882 or theffern@hawaii.edu
