Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association executive director Keith Amemiya has accepted an offer to become interim executive administrator and secretary of the University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents, pending board approval at its meeting on Maui next Thursday.
Amemiya, contacted by phone, declined official comment.
But his appointment is listed on the Board of Regents meeting agenda, under "Personnel Actions, University of Hawai‘i system."
Salary for the appointment is listed at $13,668 per month, with a "temporary salary adjustment" of $12,712 per month. The start date would be March 8, with an end date March 7, 2011.
The job is considered to be one of the highest positions in the UH administration — working with the school president, chancellors and Board of Regents on policy and operational issues.
Amemiya, 44, has changed the landscape of local high school sports during his 11 years leading the HHSAA, the state's governing body for high school athletics. He officially announced his resignation in November, with a plan to step down at the end of the school year.
The HHSAA has accepted applications for his replacement and will conduct interviews next week and in February.
