Nimitz lane closures will last into Sunday

Advertiser Staff

The westbound lanes of Nimitz Highway between Waiakamilo Road and Alakawa Street are expected to remain closed until Sunday morning as crews prepared to finish work on a broken water main and begin repaving.

Crews expected to restore water service after 10 p.m. Saturday, the Board of Water Supply said. Once that is done, crews will backfill the hole, and road repairs will begin.

The water main break resulted in the closure of the westbound lanes of NImitz for much of the day Saturday. Crews anticipate reopening the lanes at around 8 or 9 Sunday morning, the BWS said.

No residential customers were affected by the break, the BWS said. However, some restaurants at 1130 N. Nimitz and at Pier 38 were without water and closed for the day on Saturday.

Meanwhile, westbound traffic was being diverted onto Alakawa Street.
