The Hawaii Geographic Information Coordinating Council will award a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving student who shows an appreciation for and understanding of geography and geographic information systems. KAHI MOHALA RECEIVES $30K IN DONATIONS

Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health recently received $15,000 from the G.N. Wilcox Trust and $15,000 from the McInerny Foundation to support phase II of the renovation and expansion of its Lokelani Child & Adolescent Unit. The renovation will improve the safety and environmental quality in the common areas of the unit, and inpatient facility for acute and residential children and adolescents. KOU TREE PLANTED FOR ALA WAI CHALLENGE

Waikiki Community Center and the City & County Division of Urban Forestry and Parks Maintenance & Recreation Services recently coordinated the planting of a native kou tree at Ala Wai Neighborhood Park & Playground. The tree was planted to commemorate today's 25th annual Ala Wai Challenge, a free community event featuring paddling races, makahiki games, food, crafts and entertainment from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Ala Wai Neighborhood Park & Playground.
