Seton Hall upsets No. 9 Pitt, 64-61

NEWARK, N.J. — Herb Pope had 19 points and nine rebounds and Seton Hall posted its biggest win in four years with a 64-61 victory over No. 9 Pittsburgh yesterday.

Jeff Robinson tallied 15 points and hit two clutch free throws with 12 seconds to play as the Pirates (12-6, 3-4 Big East) beat the Panthers (15-4, 5-2).

"This is a stepping stone for us to learn and build from this, and try to grow," Pope said.

Ashton Gibbs had 23 points to lead Pittsburgh.

The last time Seton Hall beat a top-10 team was March 3, 2006, against then-No. 8 Pitt.

No. 18 Wisconsin 79, Penn State 71, OT: Jordan Taylor scored the last eight points of regulation to tie the game, then went on to score 10 more in overtime to lead the host Badgers (16-4, 6-2 Big Ten) over the Nittany Lions (8-11, 0-7).

Florida State 68, No. 19 Georgia Tech 66: Chris Singleton scored a career-high 23 points and Solomon Alabi made two go-ahead free throws with 22.8 seconds left to lift the host Seminoles (15-4, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) over the Yellow Jackets (14-5, 3-3).

No. 20 Northern Iowa 67, Indiana State 58: Kerwin Dunham scored a career-high 14 points, Jordan Eglseder added 12 points and the Panthers (17-2, 8-1 Missouri Valley) rebounded from their first conference loss to beat the host Sycamores (11-9, 3-6).

WOMEN

No. 3 Tennessee 55, No. 18 LSU: Alyssia Brewer had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lady Vols (17-2, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) over the host Tigers (14-4, 3-3).

No. 4 Notre Dame 74, No. 16 West Virginia 66: Lindsay Schrader scored 16 points, and Skylar Diggins added 15 points to help rally the Fighting Irish (17-1, 4-1 Big East) over the visiting Mountaineers (18-2, 5-1).

No. 6 Duke 58, Maryland 57: Jasmine Thomas scored 20 points, Bridgette Mitchell made the go-ahead basket with 1:29 left, and the Blue Devils (17-3, 5-0 ACC) squeezed past the host Terrapins (14-6, 2-4).

Mississippi 66, No. 8 Georgia 65: Bianca Thomas hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left, capping an 11-2 run down the stretch, to lift Ole Miss (14-5, 5-1) atop the Southeastern Conference with a win over the host Bulldogs (18-2, 5-2).

No. 12 Oklahoma State 74, Colorado 63: Andrea Riley scored 26 points, Tegan Cunningham had 21 and the Cowgirls (16-3, 4-1 Big 12) bounced back from their first loss in two months with a win over the host Buffaloes (12-6, 2-3).

No. 15 Florida State 85, Boston College 64: Alysha Harvin hit six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 22 points, and Chasity Clayton added a career-high 21 to lead the host Seminoles (18-3, 4-1 ACC) over the Eagles (11-9, 2-3).

Mississippi State 65, No. 21 Vanderbilt 56: Chanel Mokango scored 19 points, Alexis Rack had 17 and the Lady Bulldogs (13-7, 4-3 SEC) wrapped up a regular-season sweep of the host Commodores (14-6, 3-4).

No. 25 Virginia 57, No. 22 Georgia Tech 55: Monica Wright scored 15 of her game-high 23 points in the second half as the host Cavaliers (14-5, 3-2 ACC) beat the Yellow Jackets (16-5, 2-3).

No. 24 Vermont 67, Stony Brook 45: Courtnay Pilypaitis scored 21 points, May Kotsopoulos added 18 and the host Catamounts (16-4, 6-1 America East Conference) won again in their first appearance in the Top 25 in 17 years by beating the Seawolves (5-14, 3-4).
