The city medical examiner's office has identified Jason Awong as Oahu’s latest traffic fatality.
Police said Awong, 39, of Waianae, was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle that was driven by his son when it crashed into a fire hydrant and utility pole about 5:40 p.m. Saturday on Haleakala Avenue in Nanakuli.
Awong was taken in critical condition to The Queen’s Medical Center and died there on Sunday, police said.
Police have opened a negligent homicide investigation in the case.
Awong was the eighth traffic fatality on Oahu so far this year.
