Coast Guard comes to aid of Taiwanese fishing vessel

Hawaiçi-based Coast Guard personnel coordinated the rescue of 12 Taiwanese fishermen from a disabled ship Monday about 260 miles northwest of Midway.
The Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center received a distress signal about 1 a.m. Monday from the Shun Fu Yu 86, which was adrift after a large wave flooded its engine room.
An HC-130 aircraft from Air Station Barbers Point flew to the ship and dropped a radio to the crew.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard issued a radio broadcast asking for any ships in the area to help the Taiwanese crew. Two ships responded and reached the Shun Fu Yu 86 about 7 p.m. Monday.
