An O'ahu grand jury yesterday indicted two men on attempted-murder charges in connection with the Jan. 21 robbery and beating of two people in a Wai'alae Nui home.

Zachary Robinson, 19, and Cody Mikami, 21, each were charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, and one count of first-degree robbery. Bail is $1 million for Robinson and $500,000 for Mikami.

Robinson received the higher bail because he is awaiting trial on a burglary charge, the city Prosecutor's Office said. Mikami has no criminal record.

Robinson and Mikami were charged with first-degree attempted murder because, prosecutors said, they tried to kill more than one person. If convicted of the charge, they would face a mandatory term of life in prison without the possibility of parole, the state's harshest penalty.

The two are accused of breaking into the Halekoa Drive home of Mary Lee Koskinen, 85, early Jan. 21 and brutally beating her and her caregiver, Matthew Edmonson, 40. Koskinen and Edmonson suffered critical injuries in the attack.

Robinson was arrested later that day in Waikíkí on two contempt of court warrants totalling $50,250. Mikami was arrested on Jan. 23.
